KB40640: How to hide a dynamic text box when "total" is selected in the group-by in MicroStrategy 9.4.1

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article goes over the behavior seen by dynamic text is used and "Total" is selected in the group-by.

SYMPTOM:
When creating a document and totals are enabled in the group-by, the dynamic text for an attribute displays the first attribute element value when total is selected.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Create a report with attributes order, day, and category with a filter for only 3 days to reduce data
2. Create a document with the report as the dataset
3. Add order to the group by and change its properties to show totals
4. Add a dynamic text box for the day attribute in the order header
5. If total is selected in the page by for order the dynamic text will read the first day
CAUSE:
This is working by design for the display of the dynamic text when "Total" is used.

ACTION:
If it is desired to not see the single value when Total is selected, the formatting below can be used.
1. Modify the formatting for the dynamic text box to have white text and white background

2. Add conditional formatting for the text box to when order ID is not null and select the formatting to use black text

3. When any attribute element is selected in the group-by the dynamic text will show as normal, but when Total is selected the dynamic text will be blank
