KB40707: Is it possible to determine a break-by for a view filter qualifying on rank in a report based on an Intelligent Cube in Developer or Web 9.x and 10.x?

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article discusses a limitation of adding break by into view filters. A possible workaround for this is proposed of using a ranking report first.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy 9.x and 10.x there is no option to add a break by in a view filter that is using a report based off of an Intelligent Cube.  In a view filter, the only additional options a user will have when creating a rank qualification is to move the qualification up/down in the filter or apply the condition at the report objects level.

More information on applying the condition at the level of the report can be found in KB36601: How to evaluate a metric qualification on a view filter condition at the Report Objects level in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x

CAUSE:
Currently Strategy does not support having a break by parameter in view filters regardless if the report is based off an Intelligent Cube or not.

ACTION:
This issue was reviewed by our Technology team for feasibility and will not be scoped for a code fix in any upcoming Strategy release.

WORKAROUND:
One possible workaround is outlined in KB36235: How to generate a ranking report with a break by parameter off an Intelligent Cube in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x
