KB41128: HTML Tag "&amp" is not properly rendered as “&” when used in an element list prompt and displayed in a dynamic textbox for prompt answers in MicroStrategy Web 10.x.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy, attributes can have an HTML Tag attribute form.  The HTML Tag attribute form allows for an attribute to contain HTML code which can be rendered in a grid. For example, “&” will render as “&” in a grid as seen below. However, the HTML code will not render as expected in a dynamic textbox as highlighted in the image below. This dynamic textbox shows the selected prompt answer for the underlying report which utilizes an element list prompt.

Similarly, the HTML tag will not render correctly on the prompts page in Web as seen below. This is the same behavior as seen with the dynamic textbox.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. In Strategy Tutorial Data, change the CATEGORY_DESC element for "Books" to "Books & Books" in the LU_CATEGORY table.

Change the form format type to HTML Tag in the Category (DESC) form.

  1. Save the changes.
  2. Update schema.
  3. Create a report with Category and Profit (Report 1).
  4. Add an Element Prompt to Filter for Category.
  5. Save the report.
  6. Create a document and add Report 1 to the document.
  7. Add a grid the document with Category and Profit.
  8. Add a textbox to the document containing "{&Prompt1&}".
  9. Save the document.
  10. Run the document and select "Books & Books".
  11. Notice the textbook shows "Books & Books" while the grid correctly shows "Books & Books".

This is an identified defect in Strategy Web 10.x.
