Oracle TimesTen is an in-memory relational database where the entire database is hosted in physical memory (RAM). While the TimesTen server can be deployed as a 32-bit or 64-bit application, the Strategy Intelligence Server must use the 32-bit client on Linux to connect to the TimesTen database. Follow the instructions below to connect Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x to an Oracle TimesTen database.
NOTE: Oracle TimesTen database is currently not officially supported as a warehouse with Strategy 9.x. The level of support for this database is limited to the extent of support for the Generic DBMS object.
Create an Oracle TimesTen Directory:
Before installing the TimesTen Client, the TimesTen directory has to be created inside the /etc directory. Instead of creating the TimesTen directory in /etc and providing the Strategy Linux user with write access to /etc, the user can create the TimesTen directory within the Strategy home directory and subsequently create a soft (or symbolic) link to the TimesTen directory created by root in /etc.
Install the Oracle TimesTen Client:
TimesTen installation to members of a single OS group. Only members of
that OS group will be allowed to perform direct mode connections to
TimesTen, and only members of that OS group will be allowed to perform
operations that access TimesTen data stores, TimesTen files and shared
memory. The OS group defaults to the primary group of the instance
administrator. You can default to this group, choose another OS group
or you can make this instance world-accessible. If you choose to make
this instance world-accessible, all database files and shared memory
are readable and writable by all users.
Restrict access to the the TimesTen installation to the group 'mstr'?
NOTE: It appears that you are running version 3.4 or higher of the g++
compiler. TimesTen ships with multiple sets of client libraries and server
binaries : one built for compatibility with g++ 3.4.6 and one with
g++ 4.1.0. The installer has created links to the 3.4.6 library in the
<install_dir>/lib directory and to the 3.4.6 server binary in the
<install_dir>/bin directory. If you want to use a different compiler,
please modify the links to point to the desired library and server binary.
Do you want to install QuickStart and the TimesTen Documentation? yes
Where would you like to install the quickstart and doc directories (s=skip)?
Installing client components ...
What is the name of the host running the TimesTen server? TimesTenSvr
What is the TCP/IP port number that the TimesTen server on eagnmnmed1762 is listening on? 53389
The Quickstart home page can be accessed here :
'/edw/dedw/a00/TimesTen/TIMESTEN/quickstart/index.html'
The 11.2.1.9 Release Notes are located here :
'/edw/dedw/a00/TimesTen/TIMESTEN/README.html'
End of TimesTen installation.
Configure the TimesTen Client:
The sys.ttconnect.ini file contains the information needed to connect to the host TimesTen server. By default, the sys.ttconnect.ini file is installed in the following location:
<TimesTen installation directory>/info/sys.ttconnect.ini
Update the sys.ttconnect.ini file with the following information:
Sample Code/Error
Description=TimesTen Server
Network_Address=<server name>
TCP_PORT=<port>
For example:
Sample Code/Error
Description=TimesTen Server
Network_Address=TimesTenSvr
TCP_PORT=53389
Update the odbc.ini file:
Add the DSN for the TimesTen server in the obdc.ini that is used by the Intelligence Server. The default location for odbc.ini is <Strategy_Home_Path>. The following information is needed to do so - logical name of the TimesTen server (as defined in the sys.ttconnect.ini in the previous step), TimesTen server data source name and the TimesTen driver location. By default, the driver is installed in the following location:
Sample Code/Error
<TimesTen installation directory>/lib/libttclient.so
Edit the odbc.ini file and configure the DSN as follows:
Sample Code/Error
<DSN name>=TimesTen Client 11.2.1
TTC_SERVER=<server logical name>
TTC_SERVER_DSN=<date source name>
Driver=<TT installation directory>/lib/libttclient.so
For example:
Sample Code/Error
Strategy_TT_WH=TimesTen Client 11.2.1
TTC_SERVER=TimesTenSvr
TTC_SERVER_DSN=TimesTen
Driver=/edw/dedw/a00/TimesTen/tt1121/lib/libttclient.so
Update the odbc.sh file:
The odbc.sh file provides the odbc.ini file with the location of the TimesTen driver. The information needed is the install directory of the TimesTen Client. The default location for odbc.sh is <Strategy_Home_Path>/env. Edit the odbc.sh file and add the following entry to the bottom of the file:
Sample Code/Error
#
# ODBC Driver for TimesTen
#
MSTR_TIMESTEN_PATH=<TT installation path>
if ; then
mstr_append_path LD_LIBRARY_PATH "${MSTR_TIMESTEN_PATH:?}"/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
fi
For example:
Sample Code/Error
#
# ODBC Driver for TimesTen
#
MSTR_TIMESTEN_PATH=/edw/dedw/a00/TimesTen/tt1121
if ; then
mstr_append_path LD_LIBRARY_PATH "${MSTR_TIMESTEN_PATH:?}"/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
fi
