KB41307: Does the "Executing Jobs per user" governing setting also apply to Datasets within Documents/Dashboards in MicroStrategy 10.x?

This Knowledge Base article covers the "Executing Jobs per user" governing set behavior within Documents/Dashboards in MicroStrategy 10.x

Does the "Executing Jobs per user" governing setting also apply to Datasets within Documents/Dashboards?
Yes, Datasets are subject to the the "Executing Jobs per user" governing setting. This is by design, as datasets are separate reports that feed into a larger document/dashboard's analysis.
This setting can be found in Project Configuration -> Governing Rules-> Default -> Jobs -> "Executing Jobs per user"

To test this behavior:

  1. Create a Document/Dashboard with 10 datasets.
  2. Set the Project's "Executing Jobs per user" governing setting to 2.
  3. Execute the Document/Dashboard
  4. In the Jobs Monitor, you will notice that 2 datasets will be executing and the rest will be waiting in queue. This is to avoid scenarios where dataset jobs will exceed warehouse capacity.

Note: If the datasets are sourced from Intelligent Cubes, this governing setting does not apply to those specific datasets. Since the job directly executes against a cube, it does not create a query job.
