SYMPTOM:
Users running reports from Strategy against Oracle databases using the Strategy Wire Protocol ODBC driver see long fetch times while retrieving a relatively few number of rows as the example shown below:

CAUSE:
In order to understand results shown above, the behavior of the Strategy Wire Protocol ODBC driver was compared with Oracle’s Native ODBC Driver (not certified). The results showed that the total time spent in Query execution and Data fetch was very similar when testing both drivers. However, Oracle’s Native ODBC Driver spent more time in the SQLExecDirect (as expected) and then microseconds in the SQLFetchScroll calls. The reason for the difference in behavior is that Oracle’s Native Driver does a prefetch during the SQLExecDirect call. An enhancement request has been logged so a “Enable prefetch on SQLExecDirect” option is added to the Strategy Wire Protocol ODBC driver. This will allow Strategy to show similar times on the corresponding Query Execution and Data Fetching parts of the process.
ACTION:
No action is needed. The behavior is expected.
