KB41898: Result cells are truncated when exporting to Microsoft Access from MicroStrategy

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article notes an issue with Access databases

SYMPTOM:
Whenever exporting reports to Microsoft Access from Strategy users notice the cell values are truncated.

Display in Strategy Developer:

Result in Microsoft Access after exporting:

CAUSE:
This issue is caused due to the warehouse database having tab spaces within the cell values. (i.e. 'aaaa      bbbbb'). The Microsoft Access database does not properly work with tab characters inside of SQL inserts.

ACTION:
Option 1: Use an apply simple statement within the attribute to replace the tabs with another character such as as space.

Note:  these apply simple statements will vary in syntax and availability depending on the warehouse database being used.  The above ApplySimple Statement is only verified for an Oracle warehouse.

Option 2:  Export the report to Microsoft Excel and then import it from Microsoft Excel into Microsoft Access.
