How to move or backup a Web Server configuration of MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

Description

To be able to apply the same Administrative Settings to multiple Web Servers where Strategy Web 9.x or above is deployed the following files need to be copied:

  • AdminServers.xml
    • This file contains the Intelligence Server names that can connect to the Strategy Web Server. This file will be updated every time a user adds a new Intelligence Server name from the WebAdmin page.
  • sys_defaults_IntelligenceServerName.properties
    • This file contains the Intelligence Server connection properties (Port, Pool size, Automatically connect, etc.)
  • sys_defaults.properties
    • This file contains information of all the other settings from the WebAdmin page: Timeouts, Login modes, security, etc.
  • sys_defaults_IntelligenceServerName$Project.properties
    • This file is only generated when there are changes in the project level properties.

These files can be found in the Strategy Application folder under WEB-INF/xml.
Please note that these files will only save the Strategy Web settings and not the Strategy Office or Strategy Mobile settings.

Sessioned Preferences

Strategy also have a different set of preferences known as sessioned preferences, which are used to display the web content after a session has been created with the Intelligence Server and they control settings like color themes, locale settings, default home page, etc.
The default sessioned preferences are stored in the sys_definitions.xml file located under WEB-INF/xml folder. When any of the default preferences is modified, all the preferences that fall under that group are saved into the Metadata and not a Web file.
