KB420429: "You do not have access privileges to project" login error when clicking on a Report Services Document URL API to execute a report in MicroStrategy Web 9.3.1

Community Admin

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 9.3.1, using standard authentication, the following login error occurs when executing a report through a Report Services Document URL API including username and password information, and the user is redirected to the login page, as shown:

ka0PW0000000mPdYAI_0EM440000002GWY.jpeg

Error in login
Strategy Server error: (You do not have access privileges to project: 'Strategy Tutorial'.)

The URL API includes username and password information. After facing this login error, the affected users are able to log with the same credentials values which were specified in the URL API:

http://xxxxxxx/MicroStrategy/asp/Main.aspx?evt=4058&src=Main.aspx.4058&reportViewMode=1&_subscriptionID=xxxxxxxxxx&server=xxxxx&Project=Strategy%20Tutorial&port=0&connmode=8&ru=1&share=1&uid=xxxxxxxxxx&pwd=xxxxxxxxxx

CAUSE:
This Report Link contains the following parameters: &evt=4058 and the information about &_subscriptionID. As per the Strategy SDK documentation, &evt=4058 is an "Event for initializing the report bean using a subscription", so  if the link is to run a report, &evt=4001 should be used. However, the referred URL API works only for the user who created the subscription.

ACTION:
Define the URL API events accordingly. For additional information, consult the Strategy SDK Documentation available at: https://www2.microstrategy.com/producthelp/Current/WebSDK/Content/topics/other/Introduction_to_the_Web_SDK.htm
