KB42105: Report using report as filter shows no data for users other than the administrator in MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

Running a report that uses a report as filter executes the jobs correctly. However, data is not populated in the report grid. When filtering the report on 1 element, e.g. Quarter = Q12008, the report shows data, but if the filter is removed, the report will show no data to any user, except the Administrator.

SYMPTOM:
Running a report that uses a report as filter executes the jobs correctly. However, data is not populated in the report grid. When filtering the report on 1 element, e.g. Quarter = Q12008, the report shows data, but if the filter is removed, the report will show no data to any user, except the Administrator. With the Administrator user, the report displays correctly.

The Strategy Web 9.x error log shows the following error:

<method>throwUnexpectedStatusException</method>

  <message>Expected execution status 1, received status 24.</message>

CAUSE:
There are no reading permissions on the report used as filter. The lack of permissions causes that only the Administrator can retrieve data while all other user will not get data populated. As the error logged shows, the data is not ready at the time when the Strategy Web server polled the IServer because there user did not have read permissions to the objects in the report as filter.

ACTION:
Grant, at least, read permissions to the users for the report used as a filter.
