KB42194: "Installation is inconsistent. A Repair operation is required" error message appears when installing MicroStrategy 9x/10.x

This article describes an issue when trying to install a MicroStrategy Hotfix and there is not enough space left in the target directory.

SYMPTOM:
When installing a Strategy Hotfix, the following error message is displayed:

CAUSE:
There is no hard disk space left on the machine. The following error message is seen in the install.log:


30 Nov 2012, 16:08:05 PM:SEVERE: An error occurred while installing files from file /apps/tmp/MicroStrategy/9.3.020.055_9.3.0_Hotfix1_Linux/DataFiles/hf_mstr1.tzp: java.io.IOException: No space left on device  

 
ACTION:
Free up space on the hard drive before attempting to reinstall the Hotfix.
