KB42212: In a combination graph, metric series types are not tied to the metric when a metric selector is used to change the metrics displayed in MicroStrategy Web 9.x

SYMPTOM:
 
When a user creates a combination bar and line graph targeted by a metric selector, even if the metrics are assigned to display as a certain graph type, e.g. Bar vs. Line, they will display differently depending on what metrics are selected at the time. For example, even if the Revenue metric is assigned to display as a line graph, it will sometimes display as a bar chart depending on which other metrics are selected.
 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE

• Create a report with Year and Quarter on rows and Cost, Profit, and Revenue on Columns.
• Use this report as the dataset for a Dashboard.
• Add this report as a grid to the Dashboard.
• Change the grid to a combination graph (Bars and Lines).
• Select Cost and Profit to be displayed as bars and Revenue to be displayed as a line.
• Add a metric selector. 
• When all the metrics are selected the graph displays properly, as shown below.
  

• However when only Profit and Revenue are selected the Revenue metric is no longer displayed as a line graph, as shown below.
  

 
CAUSE:
 
This is working as designed. The issue described here is very similar to the one described in tech note KB37102, except this is with the metric series type while the issue in the other tech note is with the metric series color.
