KB42284: In MicroStrategy, when executing reports against SAP BW data source, prompt elements are not restricted to the SAP BW query.

This article notes how to permit element prompts to hit an Intelligent Cube built off of an SAP BW data source

SYMPTOM
In Strategy, when running prompted reports against SAP BW data source, the prompt answers available for selection for any attribute are not restricted to the query cube against which the Strategy report is executing. The element list available during prompt answer selection corresponds to the list available in the dimension tables for those objects.

CAUSE
This is working as designed. By default, when fetching elements for a prompt, the 'schema rowset' MDX call is made against the SAP BW data source. This MDX call is not run against specific cubes, but against the full data source.

ACTION
If the prompt being used in the Strategy report corresponds to a SAP BW variable object, it is not possible to restrict the prompt elements to the cube against which the report is executing.
If the prompt being used in the report corresponds to a prompt created in Strategy, it is possible to retrieve the prompt elements from the cube against which the report is executing by forcing report execution for element browsing (instead of using the 'schema rowset' call). Contact Strategy Technical Support for information on how to implement this.
