KB42332: How to reset the governing rules to default at the Intelligence Server level in MicroStrategy 9.x and above

This knowledge base article describes how to utilize Configuration Wizard to create a new server definition, resetting governing rules back to their defaults values in MicroStrategy 9.x and above.

INTRODUCTION:
A governor is a parameter that is used to limit a user’s access to system resources and to control the Strategy environment. The Intelligence Server checks all incoming jobs to ensure that they are in compliance with all the governors. Governors at the Intelligence Server level apply to all jobs processed by the Intelligence Server, regardless of the project. On the other hand, governors at the project level apply to all jobs submitted from the selected project, regardless of which user submitted the job. It is possible to manually reconfigure all the governing rules, one-by-one, in the Intelligence Server Configuration Editor. All governing rules can also be reset at once by creating a new Server Definition.
A server definition is a configured instance of the Intelligence Server that specifies metadata connectivity information and configuration parameters. Server definitions are created in the Strategy Configuration Wizard and are stored in the metadata and in the registry on the Intelligence Server machine.

ACTION:

To reset the governing rules at the Intelligence Server level, follow the steps below:

  1. In Windows, go to All Programs > Strategy > Configuration Wizard.
