KB42448: How to enable a graph report to show stacked bars and absolute lines in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.1

For graphs with combination of bars and lines, users would like to see bars show as stacked and lines show as absolute. Currently, in Graph Option, the layout of bars and lines has to be set as one common type. This document introduces a workaround to enable a stacked bar graph to show stacked bars and absolute lines for different series in Developer 9.4.1.

Tutorial project is used the following steps.

It can be seen that the line for Profit is not in keeping with the real value as its Data Label appears. The line for Profit has been cumulated with Revenue. The next steps introduce how to have Profit line and Revenue line to display absolutely without being cumulated.

  • Create a report with attribute Year and metric Revenue, Profit, Cost, Average Revenue and Revenue Target. View the report in Graph of type 'Vertical Bar:Stacked'.
  • Go to Graph Options -> Series, set Profit and Revenue to show as Line and check 'Show Data Labels'.
  • Change the graph type to 'Vertical Bar:DualAxis Stacked'.
  • Set same maximum value 35000000 for axis Y1 and Y2.
  • Go to Graph Options -> Vertical Bar Options -> Dual Y Options, locate Profit Secondary Axis and the other four metrics in Primary Axis.

Lines for Profit and Revenue can show absolutely while the bars still appear as stacked.

Notes: The workaround addressed here can only be applied to the scenario where it only includes two lines. There is a known issue for the requirement to enable a graph report to show stacked bars and absolute lines in Strategy Developer 9.4.1. Please contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on the status of this issue.
