KB42467: How to remove an MDX database instance, in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x -10.x.

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This knowledge base article explains how to remove an MDX database instance in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x - 10.x.

The steps below detail how to properly remove an MDX Database Instance from a project source in Strategy Developer 9.x - 10.x:

  1. Open the MDX Cube Catalog and remove the cubes that have been imported into the project. If any of those cubes cannot be removed, it means they still have dependents. Those dependents will have to be removed beforehand.
  2. Right-click on the project and select Project Configuration > Database Instance > MDX Data Warehouses. If the MDX Database Instance displays in bold, click on "Schema Maintenance...", highlight it and click on "Remove", as shown below:

NOTE: if the Remove button is grayed out, there are still dependents that need to be removed.

  1. Perform steps 1 and 2 for any project using that MDX Database Instance.
  2. Delete "Unused managed objects", by going to Administration menu > Project

Remove the Database Instance, which is located in Administration > Configuration Manager > Database Instances
