"String in context 'Object Name ' of Search object " with id '<GUID of object>' cannot exceed the maximum length of 250 characters" error appears when searching for a dependence of an object in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.1 and 10.x.

SYMPTOM
When trying to search for dependents of an object whose length is near 250 characters, the following error will show:


String in context 'Object Name ' of Search object " with id '<GUID of object>' cannot exceed the maximum length of 250 characters.

CAUSE
This is a known issue in Strategy Developer 9.4.1 and 10.x.

ACTION
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.

WORKAROUND

Rename the object to a shorter length and then search for dependents. After, name it back to the original name.
