"Metadata server initialization failed because the required referential integrity trigger or constraint on table DSSMDOBJDEFN is missing" error message appears when trying to connect to the metadata after duplicating to another database.

Before upgrading a metadata to a more recent Strategy version the metadata was copied into a different database. When using the Configuration Wizard for upgrading the following error appears upon connection:

Server Definitions manipulations error:
(Metadata server initialization failed because the required referential
integrity trigger or constraint on table 'DSSMDOBJBLOB' is missing or invalid.
The metadata repository you are trying to connect to may have been incorrectly
created or duplicated. Please contact your system administrator.)

This error message appears when using different RDBMS .
CAUSE:
Copy and restore procedure may not have been performed completely, missing one of the triggers definition. In most case, triggers are stored as special objects to prevent reusing or renaming the code wrongly.
ACTION:
Make a copy of the metadata that include the triggers and verify the creation on destination database. The following steps work for a Microsoft SQL server 2008 using Microsoft Management Studio and are provided "as is" and for your convenience only. Users will need to contact their databases administrator for adapting these steps to their database type and model:

1. Right Click in the source metadata
2. Task.
3. Generate script
4. Select only the source metadata tables -> next
5. Advanced Zoom
6. Select All to true in Table / View option (Triggers, index, ect ...) -> OK
7. Save to new query window -> Next -> Next
8. Edit the generated code and replace USE  by USE .
9. Copy all code and open a new query on the metadata DB destination -> Run
10. Make export of table data source metadata from the newly created tables in the target metadata.
11. Set Intelligence pointing to the database server of the target metadata.
