KB42628: Link bar selectors cannot horizontally scroll to accommodate many attribute elements in MicroStrategy Web

Link bar selectors cannot horizontally scroll to accommodate many attribute elements in MicroStrategy Web

SYMPTOM:

Link bar selectors have text overflow problems when there are too many attribute elements to fit in the selector width. There is no horizontal scrolling available to accommodate for this, causing undesirable effects in Strategy Web. Similar issues occur with other selector types, such as the checkbox selector.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • Create a dashboard with a dataset including Subcategory.
  • Create an element selector on one of the attributes with many elements (Subcategory) and make it a horizontal link bar selector.
  • Restrict the link bar selector width to ensure not all the elements will fit.
  • View the dashboard in Strategy Web and notice that only the first few elements are displayed and it cannot scroll horizontally, as below:

  • View on Strategy Mobile 9.x and notice that all the elements have been squeezed into the available space, causing text overflow and the appearance of vertical text, as below:

CAUSE:

This is a known issue in Strategy Web 9.x

ACTION:

Contact Strategy Technical Support. for an update on this issue.

WORKAROUND:

Instead of a selector object, a grid as a selector can be used to target other objects. Placing the attribute in the rows allows vertical scrolling and placing the attribute in the columns allows horizontal scrolling.
