This article details the necessary steps to be performed when the MicroStrategy Office plug in is not visible in Microsoft office products

SYMPTOM:
There are two main installation steps needed to be performed before Strategy Office 9.x can be used:

  1. Strategy Web Services using the Strategy Installation Wizard as shown in KB31530 and KB42425.

  2. Strategy Office add-on for Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as shown in TN35275.

Despite correctly completing these steps, users may not see the Strategy Office add-in after opening a Microsoft Office application, as shown below.

CAUSE:
The DLL file that loads the Strategy Office add-in may be deactivated or it may not be loaded at startup. To check, open the Microsoft Office application's options by going to File > Options > Add-Ins, as shown below.

ACTION:
To activate the add-in or change its startup behavior:

  • Select 'COM Add-ins' under Manage then click on the button Go.

  • If the add-in is deactivated, select the checkbox next to its name. Ensure that its Load Behavior is "Load at Startup", as shown below.

  • If the Load Behavior is incorrect:

    • Write down the location of the 'moimnshm.dll' file then click on Remove for the Strategy Office add-in.

    • Click on the Add button, navigate to the DLL file, then click on OK.

    • The Load Behavior should now be "Load at Startup".

  • Restart the Microsoft Office application and the add-in should now appear in the ribbon, as shown below.
