KB427482: "An object with name ´xxxx` and type ´Column` already exists in the destination folder" when adding tables in the MicroStrategy Warehouse Catalog in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This KB article discusses an issue due to duplicated columns references in the affected metadata and which requires the assistance of Technical Support to be solved

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x, the following error message appears when adding a table in the Strategy Warehouse Catalog:
First Attempt:

ka02R000000kb1PQAQ_0EM440000002VkR.png

Error adding Table(s) to the schema.
An object with name 'xxxx' and type 'Column' already exists in the destination folder.

Second Attempt:

ka02R000000kb1PQAQ_0EM440000002VkT.gif

Object with ID 'xxxxxxx' and type 26 (Column) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted.

When trying to perform any action afterwards, the second error message appears even when checking the table structure.

CAUSE:
After enabling the Show Invisible Objects option in the Operating System registry, it was possible to confirm that there were duplicated columns references in the affected metadata. For further reference on how to enable the Show Invisible Objects option, refer to the Strategy Technical Note:  KB19828 - How to display hidden and invisible folders/objects in Strategy Desktop 9.2.x - 9.3.x?

ACTION:
Contact the Strategy Technical Support for further assistance.

Metadata Modification:
WARNING:
Manually editing values in the Strategy Metadata incorrectly may cause serious, project-wide problems that may make your project unusable. Since these are user-initiated changes, they are not covered by any Strategy warranty. Users are strongly encouraged to backup Metadata prior to any alteration.

Registry Modification:
WARNING:
Modifying registry values incorrectly may cause serious, system-wide problems that may require the re-installation of Microsoft Windows NT/2000. Any edit of the registry is done at the user's own risk. Since these are user-initiated changes, they are not covered by any Strategy warranty. If using Microsoft Windows NT/2000, the user should backup the registry and/or update an Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) prior to alterations.
