Community Admin

• Strategy

This KB answers questions about updating CPU licenses for MicroStrategy Intelligence Server.

Customers may install Strategy Intelligence Server on a multicore computer, with a license for a limited number of CPUs. After system is configured and running, customer may buy aditional licenses for more CPUs.

QUESTION:
Is it required to re-install Strategy on Intelligence Server to activate additional CPUs?

ANSWER:
No. It is not required to install again the Strategy Intelligence server.

QUESTION:
How can the Intelligence server Activate and use the additional CPUs?

ANSWER:
Changing the Processor Affinity configuration as described on KB10122: Processor Affinity Implementation in MicroStrategy 9.x,  particularly on section 3.  Please Note that CPU affinity is recorded during installation time on the Registry (MSIReg.reg) file.

It is necessary to use the License Manager to Request and Activate the Intelligence Server with the new license that indicates the number of CPUs. It will be useful also to read KB40385: "You will need to re-activate your installation using License Manager with the correct number of processors." when changing the number of CPUs used via processor affinity in MicroStrategy 9.x.
