KB429055: "Error adding Table(s) to the schema. Database error <>: No error encountered" when accessing Google Bigquery tables that contain the underscore character.

Community Admin

• Strategy

SUMMARY:
There is a known defect in Google Bigquery that results in ODBC Driver errors when trying to gather column names from tables that contain the underscore character in their name. This error affects Data Import in Strategy Web, and the Data Warehouse in Strategy Developer.

SYMPTOM:
When trying to add tables or view the table structure for entries with an underscore in their name, like "BigQuery_Test," the warehouse catalog will fail to transfer and display an error. Tables without this character, like "Test" will import without issue.

Error adding Table(s) to the schema.
Database error <>: No error

When expanding  the table view in DBQuery tool to view the columns, this will sometimes succed despite the warehouse catalog failure. Users are able to run SQL statements against the tables in DBQuery tool without experiencing any errors.

CAUSE:
This is an identified defect in Google BigQuery getTables or getColumns calls. You can access the Google Tracking number, Issue 801.

ACTION:
Currently this issue is still under review by Google for a potential code fix. Please contact and follow their Issue Tracker for further Developments

WORKAROUND:
Ensure all table names to be imported or accessed through Strategy do not use the underscore character in their name.
