Getting the error "The bootstrap sequence has failed. See the Error Log for details. Error #1009" when trying to run a dashboard based on an MDX cube source (MSAS) containing ApplySimple in Flash mode in MicroStrategy 9.3.0.

SYMPTOM:

When running a document in Flash mode in Web, or exporting a document to a .mht file from Developer, the following error appears:

Sample Code/Error
The bootstrap sequence has failed. See the Error Log for details. Error #1009

The dataset for the document is based off of an MDX cube source, MSAS, and the report contains a compound metric which is defined using an ApplySimple statement.

Steps to reproduce the issue:

  • In the MDX cube mapping page, map all the attributes.
  • Create an attribute element prompt based off of one of the cube attributes. Name the prompt e.g. "Elements of Calendar Year MDX"
  • Create a compound metric in the cube mapping page:

  •
    ApplySimple("Aggregate ({#0},#1)", ?, Amount)

  • Create a simple report with the attribute used in the prompt, the metric in the ApplySimple statement, and the compound metric:

  • Create a document based off of the report. Put the grid in the detail header.
  • In Developer, export the document to PDF, HTML. It works.
  • In Web, run the document in Interactive, Editable, Express modes. It works.
  • In Developer, export the document to Flash, or in Web, view in Flash mode. The error appears:

CAUSE:

This is a known issue in Strategy 9.3.0. Contact Technical Support for an update on this issue.

WORKAROUND:

Avoid using the ApplySimple statement in the definition of the compound metric. Use a built-in Strategy function such as Case().
