KB43441: Unable to see custom visualizations under the widgets menu for all projects in MicroStrategy Web

Custom visualizations are not automatically enabled for all projects in MicroStrategy Web 9.x. By default, certain custom visualizations such as the WhatIf visualization are restricted to only the MicroStrategy Tutorial project.

SYMPTOM:
 
Custom visualizations such as the WhatIf Control cannot be found under the widgets menu in Strategy Web 9.x, as it should below:

CAUSE:
 
Custom visualizations are not automatically enabled for all projects in Strategy Web 9.x. By default, certain custom visualizations such as the WhatIf visualization are restricted to only the Strategy Tutorial project.
 
Note: Some of the visualizations rely specifically on the data available in the Strategy Tutorial Project. Additional configurations or Flash Builder customizations may be required to fully implement the sample visualization into a different project.

ACTION:
 
To enable the What If visualization for Strategy Web 9.x:

  • Open the Web Customization Editor (WCE) > Application Settings > Strategy Web Configuration > Visualization Settings
  • Double-click to open "flash" > browse to "visWhatIf" under the list of visualizations
  • Either clear the default list of project names to enable the visualization for all projects, or replace them with the appropriate values (multiple values should be separated using the vertical bar "|")

  • Save and restart the application server.
