KB43442: New attributes do not show up in the document dataset after completing a cube refresh in MicroStrategy Web 9.x.

New attributes do not show up in the document dataset after completing a cube refresh in MicroStrategy Web 9.x.

SYMPTOM:
After refreshing an Intelligent Cube that had columns added to it, the newly created attributes do not show up in the document's Dataset Objects pane in Strategy Web 9.x.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  1. Use Data Import to bring in an Excel file containing a few columns (i.e. 2 attributes and 1 metric).
  2. Publish the cube then create a report based off of it.
  3. Use the report as a dataset to create a document then save it.
  4. Edit the Excel file by adding an additional column that will be used as an attribute.
  5. Edit the Data Import Cube and refresh the data in order to bring in the additional column.
  6. Open the cube report and observe that the new attribute or new metric shows up in the report's Report Object pane, but is not placed on the grid template.
  7. Open the document and observe that the new attribute or metric does not show up in the layout either or in the document's Dataset Objects window pane.

CAUSE:
This is working as designed, and this behavior can occur with Data Import Cubes or normal Intelligent Cubes. This happens because the newly added objects are only included in the report's Report Object pane and not automatically added to the grid template. The grid template of an Intelligent Cube acts as a subset report or view template, and the document is only based on this view template; thus, any object that is not in the view template will not be seen in the document, even its Dataset Objects window pane.

ACTION:
After completing the cube refresh, open the report based on the cube then add the new attributes or metrics into the grid. After saving the report, the attributes or metrics will show up in the document dataset.
