SYMPTOM:
Users setup a document that contains a grid with Edit Links setup on the left-most attribute. This edit link is configured to navigate to a different document and dynamically answer prompts using the values from the attributes to the right of the attribute with the link. This will work and answer all prompts correctly using Strategy Desktop. However, this does not work in DHTML Mode for Strategy Web. Only the attribute clicked on along with the attributes placed to the left will be passed to the target report; the attributes to the right of the invoked hyperlink will not be passed.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
- Create attribute element prompts for Category, Region, and Year.
- Create a report with any attribute and any metric.
- Use all three prompts above as the report filter. Save the report as "Target Report".
- Create a new report with Category, Region and Year, and the Cost metric.
- Use the Edit Links function to create a hyperlink to Target Report for each attribute.
- Configure all prompts to be Dynamically answered.
- Save this report as "Source Report".
- Run the report in Strategy Desktop. Observe that regardless of which attribute-hyperlink is clicked all three prompts will be answered.
- Run the report in Strategy Web using Interactive Mode. Observe that only the attribute clicked and the attribute(s) to its left will be answered.
CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web 9.4.1 and above.
ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.
WORKAROUND:
There are different workarounds for this issue, however the two best approaches are:
- Place the hyperlink on the grid object's right-most attribute to completely avoid this issue regardless of the view mode.
- Follow the steps provided in the Workaround section of tech note KB42535: Document links on a grid object will only dynamically pass as prompt answer the attributes inside of the grid, and will ignore the attributes outside of the grid in MicroStrategy Web 9.x. to create a hyperlink on a textbox or a shape object in a RSD. This method provides greater flexibility on what can be passed using the hyperlink.
