KB43648: Error "You do not have Use Access to the Prompt object ..." returns to user who has no browse permission of the prompt when running a document in MicroStrategy Web and Developer 9.4.x -10.x

This technical note documents an issue that occurs when running a prompted document in MicroStrategy Web and Developer 9.4.x -10.x

SYMPTOM:
Users who do not have Browse permission to an object prompt will receive the error "You do not have Use Access to the Prompt object" even if these users have Use permission when running a document containing this prompt in Strategy Web and Developer 9.4.x - 10.x, as shown below:


You do not have Use Access to the Prompt object ...Internal Error: DSSDocumentExecuteTask::Run():Error adding Document children to resolution, job 1729, Error Code=-2147214579.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Create an object prompt and add two filters as pre-defined prompt options.

Create a report. Add this prompt to the report filter as shortcut.

Edit the ACL of the prompt. Assign the following permissions to a test user or a test group:

Create a document and add this report as a dataset
Login in to Strategy Web as administrator (not the test user) and run the document. Save the document and choose either to "Display prompt and user the current answers as the default answers" or "Display prompt but discard the current answers".

Now, log into Strategy Web as the test user who has the permissions defined in step 3.
Execute the document and observe the error.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web and Developer 9.x - 10.x.

ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.

WORKAROUND:
Re-add the prompt to the report with the option "Add to report filter as embedded" instead of "Add to Report Filter", like shown below:
