KB43677: "Error: Object with ID xxx and type 29 (DB Instance) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted." error message appears when running a report or opening the Warehouse Catalog in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x - 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This technical note describes an issue that occurs because of a missing reference to a database instance.

SYMPTOM:
Users will see the following error when running reports because of a missing reference to a database instance that does not exist anymore in the metadata.

"Error: Object with ID 'xxxx' and type 29 (DB instance) is not found in metadata. It may have been deleted."

This issue can also occur when opening the Warehouse Catalog; the same error message will appear and after that the Warehouse Catalog displays properly.

CAUSE:
A database instance was deleted from the metadata when schema objects were dependent on the instance.
This issue occurs now because there is an inconsistency in the metadata. There are references to a database instance that still exists in the metadata. In order to track down the cause of this inconsistency, customers encountering this issue should make note of Schema/Application-related changes, Object Migrations or error messages prior to experiencing the problem.

ACTION:
If the deleted DB instance is present in any other metadata or the backup of the current metadata (search for the object by ID coming in the error message), then migrating that DB Instance in the destination project first may resolve this issue. If the deleted DB Instance does not exist at all, then contact Strategy Technical Support to resolve the inconsistency.
