KB43679: Searchbox selectors do not filter down elements when targeted by other selectors in MicroStrategy Web 9.x Flash Mode.

This article describe a known issue in MicroStrategy Web 9.x where a selector in Flash Mode does not filter out values when targeted by another selector. This issue is resolved in MicroStrategy 10.x. Upgrade to MicroStrategy 10.x to take advantage of this fix.

SYMPTOM:
A searchbox selector does not filter down the attribute elements when it is targeted by another selector, in Strategy Web 9.3.0.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • Create a report with Category and Item.
  • Create a document with this report.
  • Create an element selector on Category and a searchbox selector on Item.
  • Make the Category selector target the searchbox selector and both selectors target the grid.
  • Run in Flash Mode and select an element from the Category selector.
  • Notice that no matter what element is selected in the Category selector, the searchbox selector does not filter out the elements and shows all available elements, as shown below:

CAUSE:
This is a current limitation of Strategy Web 9.x. The searchbox selector cannot read the XML file created by any other type of selector in order to interact with it and filter its results further down. Therefore, the elements returned by the searchbox selector are not filtered. However an enhancement request has been logged to address this behavior.

ACTION:
This issue is fixed in Strategy 10.x and above for Presentation Mode. Upgrade and use Presentation Mode to take advantage of this fix.

WORKAROUND:
Use any other type of selector except for the searchbox selector.
