KB43701: Exporting a report to Excel 2003 causes the report title to display in a merged cell that extends beyond the width of the report data when exported from MicroStrategy Web 9.3.x

In the Web Preferences, users have the option to select to export either to Excel 2003 or Excel 2007/newer. When users set this preference to 2003, then export a report including the report title, users may notice that the report title is contained in a merged Excel cell, the which of which extends one column beyond the width of the grid data

SYMPTOM:
 
In the Web Preferences, users have the option to select to export either to Excel 2003 or Excel 2007/newer. When users set this preference to 2003, then export a report including the report title, users may notice that the report title is contained in a merged Excel cell, the which of which extends one column beyond the width of the grid data, like shown below:

In the above screenshot, highlighting was added to the report title cell after the export to make it clear that the cell width extends beyond the width of the grid. In this example, column G is part of the report title merged cell even though the data only extends to column F.
 
CAUSE:
 
This is a known issue with Strategy Web 9.3.x.
 
ACTION:
 
Please contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.
 
WORKAROUND:
 
This issue does not occur when the report is exported to Excel 2007, like shown below:
