KB43802: "Error loading contents" error appears when using the search box in an SAP variable prompt, in MicroStrategy 9.x.

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

"Error loading contents" error appears when using the search box in an SAP variable prompt, in MicroStrategy 9.x.

SYMPTOM:

Variables in SAP BW allow user input into cube execution. In Strategy, variables are automatically imported as prompts belonging to the OLAP query cube object.
When running an MDX report that contains an SAP variable prompt and using the search box to look for an existing value, the following error appears:

ka02R000000kX6hQAE_0EM440000002ClE.jpeg

When clicking on the details section, the following message displays:

QueryEngine encountered error: ExecQuery failed. MDX Execution failed.
Error type: JCO layer error. JCOStatement.executeQuery failed. java.lang.Exception: Error during MDX Query Execution
Error during Bapi Execution: An exception has occurred at com.Strategy.Database.JCO.JCOStatement3.executeQuery(Unknown Source)

CAUSE:

One possible cause for this issue is that the prompted attribute is an implied attribute. The attribute the prompt is based on is implied when it is not part of the SAP query cube template. For instance, if an SAP query cube contains a variable on Region and then attribute Year and metric Revenue in the template, Region is an implied attribute because it is not part of the template.

ACTION:

Prompt element search on implied attributes is currently not supported in Strategy Developer and Web 9.x.

WORKAROUND:

Add the implied attribute to the SAP query cube template.
