KB438627: How to configure Apache Impala to work with MicroStrategy Transaction Services

Community Admin

• Strategy

By default Apache Impala does not support Transaction Services queries.

By default Apache Impala does not support Transaction Services queries.

SYMPTOM:

A Transaction Services configuration that works with another supported DB instance, when reconfigured to point to an Impala instance, will cause Strategy to stay in the “loading” state indefinitely and the same line will be written to the database repeatedly.

CAUSE:

By default, in Impala Driver Configuration Options, the EnableSimulatedTransactions has a value of 0 assigned, which will cause the driver to return an error if it attempts to run a query that contains transaction statements.

WORKAROUND:

Open the odbc.ini configuration file and add the following line:

EnableSimulatedTransactions = 1;

This will manually override the default driver setting. The driver then simulates transactions, enabling queries that contain transaction statements to be run successfully.
