KB43863: Hotfix installation does not reach 100% completion and no error message is produced in a UNIX/Linux environment in MicroStrategy 9.x

Community Admin

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:

When performing a hotfix installation in Strategy in a UNIX/Linux environment, the installer may not reach 100% and will stop at an earlier percentage. Additionally, no errors are logged and the impression of a successful installation is provided. However, when checking installation history (through License Manager or the mstr.hist file), no entry is found for this hotfix.

CAUSE:

This can be due to a corrupt instances.xml file. If the Strategy environment on the machine has been moved from the path in which it was originally installed, the hotfix may be pointing to an incorrect location to install the components.

ACTION:

The Strategy installation should not be moved from the path location in which it was originally installed. If the Strategy installation must be moved to a different location on the UNIX/Linux machine, it is best to perform a complete uninstall or re-install. This ensures the integrity of the install and the location of installed components are correct for future operations and installations.
