KB438631: Error 'The Web Server encountered an unknown runtime error. Multiple users use same login or Windows NT SID. Login fail.' occurred when trying to login with trusted authentication in MicroStrategy 10.x

Community Admin

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy 10.4, the login fails with error message 'Multiple users use same login or Windows NT SID' when using Trusted Authentication, although it works fine with the same Trusted Authentication settings in 9.4.1.
Error Message:

The Web Server encountered an unknown runtime error.
Multiple users use same login or Windows NT SID. Login fail.

CAUSE:
Unsupported ODBC driver is used for Microsoft SQL server to connect Metadata.
In version 10.x, the only supported ODBC driver is Strategy out of box ODBC driver.
When using Microsoft SQL Server as Metadata, the user GUID need to be convert into UniqueIdentifier where user information is stored in Metadata.
It might be possible that Strategy cannot correctly query and map the correct user GUID, causing problems to find the corresponding user.
ACTION:
Recreate DSN to connect Metadata using Strategy Connectivity wizard with selecting Strategy out of box ODBC driver ‘Strategy ODBC Driver for SQLServer Wire Protocol’. KB438631
