In rare scenarios some users may experience an error when executing any report in Microsoft Excel or Powerpoint through MicroStrategy Office 9.3.0

SYMPTOM:
In rare scenarios some users may experience the following error when executing any report in Microsoft Excel or Powerpoint through Strategy Office 9.3.0.
Failed to retrieve single page: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.   at OfficeAdapters.AdapterDisplay.DisplayExcel.AdjustCellName(Workbook wkbk, String sheetName, String ogCell, Int32 rowOffset, Int32 colOffset)   at OfficeAdapters.AdapterDisplay.RetrievalReport_Excel.RetrieveSinglePage(PageSpecification pageSpec, PresentationInformation startPlacement, Page& thePage, Int32 totalPages, Boolean& canceled)Worksheet is null

In the moilog the error is listed like this:
<li ver="2" ts="6/17/2013 16:17:57.62" cmp="Office" evt="Error" mth="ExcelHelpers.ExcelWorkbookCalls.AddWorksheet" id="">Failed to create new worksheet: Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Workbook'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{000208DA-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' failed due to the following error: Library not registered. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8002801D (TYPE_E_LIBNOTREGISTERED)).</li>

CAUSE:
The issue happens when the end user machine has installed two different versions of Microsoft Office at the same time. In some cases, this can occur even when a previous version of Microsoft Office has not been uninstalled completely and some registry keys are getting duplicated or incorrectly overwritten by the new version. When we have some components installed in one version and the rest in a different version, usually the newer version will change the registry keys of the older components too even though, they have not been selected for an update. In such, we have older versions of the components with modified registry keys to use mappings that are supported for the new version of the product only.

ACTION:
We highly recommend you to contact Microsoft Support for assistance in such issues where the libraries of Excel are mis-mapped. They can help you modify the registry correctly without any unplanned consequences.  As a general rule, please  have only one version of Microsoft Office to be installed on end-user machines.
