KB439303: Report header is not exported to excel when reports contain attribute only and “remove extra column” setting is enabled on export option page in MicroStrategy Web 10.x

Min Zheng

Senior Manager, Cloud Support • MicroStrategy

SYMPTOM
Report header is not exported to excel when reports contain attribute only and “remove extra column” setting is enabled for export settings in Strategy Web 10.x.

Follow below steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Create a report with attributes only and put the attributes all to rows.
  2. For the export option, it can be set in Report level, Project Defaults or User Preference. After it takes effect, export the above report.
  3. Check the exported excel file. All attribute headers are missing.

In this scenario, the option “remove extra column” in report option page is not related.
It controls the display in Web only.
CAUSE
This is a known issue with Strategy Web 10.x.
WORKAROUND
The option “remove extra column” is to remove “Metric” column, which doesn’t show up when the report only contains attributes.
So to enable or disable this setting doesn’t have impact on such reports with only attributes.
If end users don’t want to modify Project Defaults or User preference, which might have impact on other normal reports with both attribute and metric, the option can be change and saved in Report level for specific report.
The steps are as below:

  1. Run the specific report in Web and choose to export it.
  2. In Export option page, change the option to Yes. Export it.
  3. Go back to the opened report in Web and save it.  If save button is not enabled, perform any change and revert it back. The save button should be enabled.

Note that if step 3 is not performed, the setting would not be saved to report definition.
If the export option page has been set to “Do not display any more”, user can enable it temporarily from Web Preference-User level-Export Reports-Show options when exporting. 439303
