KB439319: The list of tables are not limited to the specified user when viewed in Warehouse Catalog connecting to Spark SQL using MicroStrategy Developer 10.4

Mari Sugimura

Senior Cloud Support Engineer III • MicroStrategy

This article explains a known issue found with ODBC driver that the list of WH tables are not limited to the specified DB user's access privilege when viewed in WH Catalog and Data Import, which have been addressed with 10.4.6 and above.

SYMPTOM:
The list of tables are not limited to the specified user when viewed in Warehouse Catalog connecting to Spark SQL using Strategy Developer. The DB user specified in Database Connection does not have access to tables created by other DB users, but those tables are visible in Warehouse Catalog, resulting additional time for loading tables as well as security concern.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Create a DSN to access tables in Spark SQL using Strategy ODBC Driver for Apache Spark SQL.
  2. Create a new project with a new Database Instance using the DSN.
  3. Try viewing the list of available tables and notice that tables from DB users other than the one specified in Database Instance are visible.

Note: The issue can be reproduced with DB Query Tool as well because the problem is caused by the ODBC driver. The option for "Use Current Schema for Catalog Functions" is not working.
