KB439404: Using Command Manager to change a MicroStrategy Web preference for an entire group of users

Bernardo Avalos

Product Manager • MicroStrategy

When an administrator needs to change the Web Preferences there are two possibilities: changing the property for a particular user or doing it at a project level for every user. However, sometimes we may need to do the change for a particular group of users. In this case, neither the MicroStrategy Web GUI nor Command Manager will give us the option to do so. This is an expected behavior.

Symptom

The user wants to change some Web Preference at a user group level, but neither Strategy Web GUI or Command Manager display any option to do so:

Strategy Web:

Command Manager:

               … [FOR (USER "username" | CURRENTUSER)] TO (ALLPROJECTS | PROJECT "project_name");
APPLY WEBPREFERENCES DEFAULTVALUES FOR USER "JeanSmith2" TO ALLPROJECTS;

Cause

This is working by design.

Action

In order to change any of the Strategy Web preferences at the user group level, the administrator must design a “made to measure” solution like a procedure based on Strategy Command Manager.
