KB43946: Command Manager script fails with a "Java heap space" error.

Command Manager script fails with a "Java heap space" error.

Description

Running a script in Strategy Command Manager fails with a "Java heap space" error. This usually occurs with a script that is very memory-intensive, such as

ALTER USER IN GROUP
for a very large group. However, increasing the Java heap size does not stop the error from appearing.

Why is this happening?

It's possible that the memory necessary to populate the Command Manager interface is being exceeded. If this is the case, raising the HeapMaxSize in the system registry will not resolve the problem.

Solution

Allow more space for the interface using the following steps:
Note: This path is based on a 64-bit Windows OS. If you're using 32-bit, please adjust accordingly. Please note that the Xmx parameter is case sensitive.

  1. Go to the Start Menu > All Programs > Strategy > Command Manager.
  2. Right-click Command Manager and select Properties.
  3. In the Shortcut tab, set Target to C:\Program Files (x86)\MicroStrategy\Command Manager\CmdMgrW.exe" -Xmx1500M.
If "1500M" results in a memory allocation error, try using "1000M."
