KB43957: The error "empty reply from server" is returned when running any query against Analysis Services after upgrading to use the new MicroStrategy binary MDX cube provider in MicroStrategy 9.3.x.

SYMPTOM:
 
The error "empty reply from server" is returned when running any MDX query against a Strategy SQL Server Analysis Services.
 

 
This happens after an upgrade to 9.3.x from an earlier version where the environment is switched to using the Strategy provided binary MDX cube provider even after changing the database connection type to SQL Server analysis services (MDX cube provider)
 
CAUSE:
 
This is caused by switching the database connection type for an existing database instance. When doing this it doesn't redo the default properties/settings for the database connection in question. This causes the database connection to not have the necessary additional connection string parameter it must have to function. This parameter is only set if a new database connection is made after the database instance is set to use the MDX cube provider connection type.
 
ACTION:
 
Modify the Database instance and database connection and add "USE_MTOM;" to the additional connection string parameters so it resembles the following.
