When installing Strategy Library on Tomcat, you might get the following error message, even if Tomcat is properly installed in the target directory :
"Unable to find Apache Tomcat in the selected directory. Please provide a valid directory with Apache"

When validating Tomcat, here are the list of things the installer checks behind the scene. Each of these steps can be the source of that error :
Here are some things to look at in order to check and fix the above requirements
Tomcat directory provided exists
Check that the path you provided is correct
"lib" directory exists under the Tomcat directory
Check the path, and make sure Tomcat is properly installed
"lib" directory is writable (user has the write permission)
Go to Tomcat path in a terminal, and type "ls -l". This will provide the list of folders and additional information.
The line containing "lib" should be prefixed with "drw-r--r--" or "drwxr-xr-x".
If it says "dr--r--r--" or "dr--------", then type the following command : "chmod 644 ./lib/"
webapps directory exists
Make sure the webapps directory exists in Tomcat directory. If not, create it
<tomcat_path>/bin/version.sh file exists
Confirm this file is in the ./bin/ folder
Execution of <tomcat_path>/bin/version.sh is successful. (This file is used to read the Tomcat version.)
There are 2 things to check here
1. version.sh can, by default, not be allowing execution.
This can be checked the same way we check if "lib" directory is writable. Expected prefix for this file is "drwxr-xr-x". If it's not the case, then use a terminal to go in ./bin/ folder and type : "chmod 755 ./version.sh"
2. The file might be executable but might not execute properly because JAVA is not properly configured.
In order to fix that, add EXPORT JAVA_HOME=<JAVA-PATH> in .bashrc profile (and then re run bash or login again)
JAVA-PATH needs to go all the way before ./bin/java
Example : JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.151-1.b12.el7_4.x86_64/jre"
