KB43983: Unable to use multiple datasets based on one "base" report which uses object prompts in a Visual Insight 9.x dashboard

Community Admin

• Strategy

When using Visual Insight with multiple datasets that were originally created from the same report which uses object prompts and adding the second dataset users can only see objects of the first dataset. The second added dataset is in the list of datasets but its objects are not displayed and thus cannot be used.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
For an example of how to reproduce this with the Strategy Tutorial Project:
1. Create an object prompt on a list of attributes to choose from: Month and Region. Save it as "attribute prompt"
2. Create an object prompt on a list of metrics to choose from: Revenue and Profit. Save it as "Metrics Prompt"
3. Create a report and place "Attribute Prompt" in the rows of the template and "Metrics Prompt" in the columns. Save the report as "Base report"
4. Execute the "Base report" by choosing Region and Revenue and save it (as prompted) as "dataset 1"
5. Execute the "Base report" by choosing Month and Profit and save it (as prompted) as "dataset 2"
4. Create a Visual Insight dashboard and choose "dataset 1" as the dataset. Don't choose the type of visualization yet.
5. When the dashboard is executed click on Show -> Dataset Objects. On the left a panel the objects from "dataset 1" are displayed (Region and Revenue)
6. Click on Add dataset and select "dataset 2"

"Dataset 2" appears in the drop-down list of the datasets but its objects are not loaded. When selecting it, the dataset objects are still Region and Revenue and you cannot find Month and Profit.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Visual Insight 9.x.

Note: This issue only occurs if datasets are based on same object prompt.

ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on the status of this issue.

WORKAROUND:
Save the datasets used in the Visual Insight Analysis as 'Static'.
