KB439874: Users can see all schedules when scheduling the refresh for an intelligent cube even when the schedules are not enabled on the project level in MicroStrategy Web 10.x.

Shane Winslow

Cloud Support Expert I • MicroStrategy

In MicroStrategy Web 10.x, users see all schedules when scheduling a refresh of an intelligent cube even though the schedules are set to be unavailable in the Web Preferences. These schedules are not triggered if selected.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 10.x, there is a web preference to show all available schedules in a project or allow for users to subscribe to only a list of selected schedules. This web preference, shown in the image below, can be found in the Web Preferences under Project Defaults > Schedule. By default, the “Allow users to subscribe to all schedules.” is selected.

However in Strategy Web 10.x, users are still able to see the entire list of schedules when scheduling the refresh of an intelligent cube even when only selected schedules are chosen in the Web Preferences.
Consider that only the schedule First of Month is selected, as shown below:

If the schedule is for an intelligent cube, all schedules are still visible.

This allows users to select schedules they shouldn't be able to and gives them no warnings that this process may result in failure. If a schedule is chosen that is not enabled in the Web Preferences, the refresh of the intelligent cube will simply never occur.
This issue does not happen with regular reports or documents that are not based on intelligent cubes. When subscribing to a report or document, only the selected schedules in the Web Preferences are available, as expected.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow these steps to reproduce the issue in a Strategy Tutorial Project.

  1. In the Strategy Tutorial Warehouse tables, import data from the table LU_CATEGORY to create an intelligent cube in Strategy Web 10.x.
  2. Create a report based off the cube in Step 1 that includes the description form for Category.

  1. In Strategy Web, navigate to Preferences > Project Defaults > Schedule.
  2. Select 'Only allow users to subscribe to schedules in the list below' and select First of Month.

  1. Click Save.
  2. Right-click on the cube published in Step 1 and click 'Schedule'.
  3. Expand the schedule dropdown. Notice all the schedules for the project are visible.

  1. Select 'Books Closed' and save.
  2. Modify the CATEGORY_DESC column in Tutorial Data by changing ‘Books’ to ‘Test’.
  3. Trigger the 'Books Closed' event in Strategy Developer.
  4. Run the report created in Step 2. Notice the data is not updated.
  5. In the Strategy Web Preferences, add ‘Books Closed’ to the selected list of available schedules.
  6. Trigger the 'Books Closed' event in Strategy Developer again.
  7. Run the report created in Step 2. Notice the data is updated.
