Stanislav Gordiienko

Senior Product Manager • MicroStrategy

This technical note KB39933 describes a known defect in MicroStrategy Command Manager interactive mode, when listing properties for a document with results concurrent execution and export. The defected behavior results in disconnecting from Command Manager.

SYMPTOM:
Users that chose to use interactive mode of Strategy Command Manager in Linux or Windows environment to list all properties for the document with results concurrent export and execution (EXECANDEXPORT), would see unexpected behavior: disconnect from Strategy Command Manager with a following java code. LIST ALL PROPERTIES OF DOCUMENT "test" IN FOLDER "\Public
Objects\Documents" FOR PROJECT "Strategy tutorial";

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. In Developer create any document in any directory (example: \Public Objects\Documents)
2. Make sure your project source is in 3-tier connection mode.
3. Open windows command prompt as administrator and launch command manager in interactive mode using syntax "cmdmgr.exe -interactive"
4. Connect to your project source using syntax connectmstr -n "#ProjectSourceName" -u #UserName -p "#password"   (EXAMPLE ==> connectmstr -n "Strategy Analytics Modules" -u Administrator -p "test" )
5. LIST ALL PROPERTIES OF DOCUMENT "#DocumentName#" IN FOLDER "#\Directory\Of\The\Document#" FOR PROJECT "#ProjectName#"; (EXAMPLE ==> LIST ALL PROPERTIES OF DOCUMENT "test" IN FOLDER "\Public Objects\Documents" FOR PROJECT "Strategy tutorial";)
6. Once prompted to select an action (such as savefile, exec, etc), type EXECANDEXPORT <#directory\file_name.xml#> (EXAMPLE ==> EXECANDEXPORT C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\results.xml )
CAUSE:
This is a known defect of Strategy Command Manager that is only prevalent in interactive mode. Executing (using EXEC instead of EXECANDEXPORT) does not cause this internal application crash.
ACTION:
Currently this issue is being reviewed by Strategy for a potential code fix on an upcoming Strategy release.
WORKAROUND:
Use Strategy Command Manager command line interface running scripts, or graphical interface.
