KB440127: In MicroStrategy Web 10.x, Column headers do not scroll correctly on Web with Microsoft Edge browser when the report has a large number of Attributes

Carlos Rodriguez

Senior Cloud Support Engineer III • MicroStrategy

In MicroStrategy Web 10.x when running a large report with a lot of attributes in the report template and the column header is locked, when the report is executed in the Edge browser the column header does not scroll to the right of the page.

SYMPTOM
In Strategy Web 10.x, users can encounter an issue when executing a report that contains a lot of attributes in the report template and the column headers are locked. After the report is rendered and when trying to scroll to the right to see the data, the report column headers barely scroll over, while the data columns scroll over as expected. This issue has been seen only in Edge Browsers.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  1. Create a report in Strategy Developer 10.x, and add all Attributes from the following Attribute Folders
    • Time
    • Customers
    • Geography
  2. In the Grid Menu of the Developer, click on Merge Column Header Cells
  3. In the Grid Menu of the Developer, click on Lock Column Headers.
  4. Save the report as "Column Header Scroll Test"
  5. Log in as administrator into Strategy Web using Microsoft Edge browser.
    • If users have problems running the report in Microsoft Edge, take a look at this KB: https://community.strategy.com/article/How-to-open-MicroStrategy-Web-in-Microsoft-Edge-browser-on-Windows-10
  6. Navigate to the required folder and execute the report in the Edge browser, this will take several minutes to run.
  7. Then, click on the scroll bar at the bottom of the report to scroll right. It is seen that the data scrolls to the left left, but the header barely moves.

CAUSE
This issue issue specific to Microsoft Edge browser when the Column Headers are locked.
ACTION
The issue is specific to a case where Column Headers are locked. If users unlock the Column Headers for the report, the Column Headers scroll back and forth without issue.
If it is necessary to lock the headers, use a different supported browser to avoid seeing this issue.
