KB44015: "Cannot save, move or copy this Report Definition object because it has been changed in the Metadata" message appears when saving modifications to reports in MicroStrategy Desktop

Community Admin

• Strategy

In clustering environment, on one node, when modifications are made to one report, which is opened on both nodes clustered, the user on the other node receives message "Cannot save, move or copy this Report Definition object because it has been changed in the Metadata" when saving the report, in MicroStrategy 2021.

SYMPTOM:
In clustering environment, on one node, when modifications are made to one report, which is opened on both nodes clustered, the user on the other node receives message "Cannot save, move or copy this Report Definition object because it has been changed in the Metadata" when saving the report, in Strategy 2021.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

    1. Create a report.
    2. Open this report in design mode on both clustering nodes, which are called A and B.
    3. Make some modifications, such as adding a metric from node A.
    4. Save and close this report on node A.
    5. If the user saves and closes the report on node B, a warning message will appear, as showed below.

Cannot save, move or copy this Report Definition object because it has been changed in the Metadata.

    1. If the user closes the report directly and chooses to save the modifications, the error message will appear, as showed below.

Error encountered while trying to save this object."Cannot save, move or copy this Report Definition object because it has been changed in the Metadata."

CAUSE:
It is by design. It is to make sure a previously done modification would not be accidentally overwritten by later modifications, when both modifications are made on the same report version.

ACTION:
The second edit would need to be redone. The user needs to reload the report definition by closing without saving and re-opening the report and then apply the new modifications before it can be saved.
