KB440419: Object Manager 10.9 hangs and crashes when searching for hidden objects.

Community Admin

• Strategy

MicroStrategy 10.9 metadata contains 2 hidden objects that will cause the search function to hang and crash. The object names are ‘Deleted Dossier Placeholder’ and ‘Published Dossier Placeholder’. Keywords ‘delete, ‘published’, and ‘dossier’ would cause these shortcuts to appear in search results. Known errors reported are ‘Invalid procedure call or argument’ and ‘Method ~ of object ~ failed twice’.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
Strategy 10.9 metadata contains 2 hidden objects that will cause the search function to hang and crash.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  1. Open a project and begin a search for objects
  2. Enable the ‘Display hidden objects’ setting within search options
  3. Search for an object with a name including any of the words ‘delete’, ‘dossier’, or ‘published’
    OR
Search for shortcut objects within the Object Types tab
  4. Object Manager will throw an error (ex: Method ~ of object ~ failed twice)
  5. If you let Object Manager run, Windows will report an application crash

CAUSE
These errors are caused by two system managed shortcut objects named ‘Deleted Dossier Placeholder’ and ‘Published Dossier Placeholder’ located in the Public Objects folder. Users are not able to navigate to these objects and it is recommended to not delete them.
ACTION
This issue is currently being reviewed by Strategy for a potential fix in an upcoming release.
WORKAROUND
To search a project with these objects, users can choose to ignore all shortcut objects in the search or specify a folder other than the \<Project name>\Public Objects\ directory.
Users can also choose not to search for hidden objects in the search options.
