KB440679: The result is incorrect when a derived attribute defined on multiple attributes with the parent of one attribute is on filter panel in MicroStrategy 10.7 and earlier

Chris Robinson

Principal Product Specialist • Strategy

SUMMARY:
In Strategy 10.7 and earlier, the result set returned to the grid will be incorrect due to a derived attribute defined from multiple attributes with the parent of one of the attributes present in the filter panel.
SYMPTOM:
The result set is incorrect due to a cross join that is created from adding a parent attribute from one of the attributes identified in the derived attribute to the filter panel. Additionally, this can slow performance due to the nature of cross joins.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Create a derived attribute as shown below with multiple attributes utilized.

2. Place this on the grid with Month and Cost.

Derived attribute element 120051 should only be showing Month ID elements 200501, 200502, and 200503.
CAUSE:
This is an identified defect found in 10.7 and earlier.
ACTION:
Upgrade to the newest feature release to resolve the issue found with this defect. The below screenshot is from Strategy 10.11 showing correct data.
