KB440708: Filters do not behave correctly when based on Derived Elements using multiple attribute forms

Community Admin

• Strategy

This article notes an issue where Filters on Dossiers and Dashboards do not behave correctly when built off of Derived Elements which use multiple attribute forms in MicroStrategy 10.0-10.10

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
SYMPTOM
When creating and using filters based on a derived element odd behavior can be seen. This can manifest as excessive execution time and Web timing out or as the filter not being applied to the data at all. This occurs when the derived element is based on multiple different attribute forms. An example of the incorrect behavior is seen below.
Derived element definition

Notice how the different filters use the first name, last name and ID forms for customer.
Incorrect behavior

Notice how more data is seen than just for New Filter 1 despite the filter settings.
CAUSE
This is a known issue in Strategy 10.0-10.10. Filters are not properly handled for derived element cases like this.
ACTION
This has been fixed in Strategy 10.11. Upgrade to this or a newer release to take advantage of the fix.
Correct behavior

Notice how the filter is correctly applied and only data valid for the filter is seen.
The internal reference numbers for this are KB440708 and DE91222
